What You Don't Know About the Cruise Industry?
What You Don't Know About the Cruise Industry?
By Dr. Robert D. Allen
Did you know that 80% of Americans have never been on a cruise despite the highly positive perceptions of cruise vacations? Let me tell you a little about the cruise industry:
1) Cruise Lines are divided into 3 categories:
* Luxury- The tops and best such as Crystal, Regent, and Oceania.
* Premium- mid-level, such as Celebrity and Holland America
* Mass Market- such as Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian Cruise Line
All provide great cruises, but some are more luxurious than others.
2) More than 36 new cruise ships are currently being built. This is an expanding business!
3) The largest cruise ships currently in operation carry 4,000 passengers and larger ones are being built.
4) Cruise activities are considerably less expensive than land based alternatives. Per day costs for room, food, and entertainment are all included in the basic cruise costs and are less than a participant would spend at moderately priced hotels and restaurants.
5) Cruises are the safest and most secure trip you can take. Each passenger and each piece of baggage are subject to more rigorous screening than at airports, yet boarding is just as fast if not faster.
6) Since 9/11, passport regulations have become stricter. While some may tell you that a birth certificate will suffice for some countries, we tell all our clients to get a passport.
7) The median age of cruisers is now 46-- down from 49 in 2006. We are getting younger!
